Meet the Metaverse Creators

Meet the Metaverse Creators

Read time: 2 mins 7 secs

This is a weekly newsletter brought to you by a former fashion editor, aka me, Lina. I will particularly cover digital wearables and their role in the gaming and fashion industry.

The Wearables Daily will feature and acknowledge all industry talents and tell their stories.

INTRODUCTION

For today's newsletter, I thought to introduce you to some wonderful creators I met while hanging around in the Metaverse. Particularly in Decentraland.

I have a mission to document the very first steps of this new exciting ecosystem that is surprisingly lively and so different from any other fields in that I was previously involved. What is clear to me is that web3 and different virtual worlds give opportunities to anyone willing to take them.

I almost missed this, but it's exactly seven months since I first logged in to Decentraland. During that time, I got to know some very cool people in the space. And with one simple hello, they got me involved in this hype of building the future together.

FAVORITE INTERVIEWS

During this time, I had an amazing opportunity to interview some of the most brilliant creators in Decentraland. They all shaped my opinion, gave incredible inspiration, and supported me with a nice push to always do more. These are my favorite interviews!

#1 Interview with Tangpoko

Key takeaways:

  • Crypto can give real freedom for females to make money and be financially independent.

  • Internet anonymity gives purity to communication. You don't worry about someone's race or gender or age or ability, or social/economic status.

  • There are still a lot of technical issues that Decentraland has to solve before bringing new communities in.

#2 Interview with Maryana

Key takeaways:

  • Metaverse is fun, but it also can give you endless business opportunities with partners you have never met IRL.

  • In a way, Decentraland is a social media platform represented by avatars.

  • Most early adopters are hyped about wanting to be among the first to change Internet history.

#3 Interview with MetaFox Crew

Key takeaways:

  • You can do a great quality project with a remote team of web3 enthusiasts.

  • It doesn't mean you have to do physical garments if you own a digital brand. The community is here for the digital versions mainly.

  • Many creators started exploring Metaverse when the global pandemic hit.

SPACES

#1 Ney from Wilderness

If you read my previous newsletter, you probably remember my first P2E experience playing the Decentraland game Wilderness. I also had a Twitter Spaces talk with Ney, co-founder, and CEO of the game. I truly loved chatting with Ney, and learning that she's living in the mountains of India, with no one around interested in web3, and still rocking in the space all on her own. If this is not an inspiration, I don't know what is!

#2 Michi Todd

Michi is one of the most creative people I know in the industry. His passion and commitment always inspire me to reach for the stars. Previously Michi worked in 7/11, and when the global pandemic hit, he started to doubt everything. So, he made an excel sheet with a plan how to change his life! That's right, the sheet where he planned how he would earn money in the Metaverse. This true insight into the creator's reality really gave me a perspective on managing time and expectations.

#3 Masha from DigiFun

I have always admired the fine work done by DigiFun. DigiFun is not only a Metaverse fashion brand but also a DAO. I had an opportunity to talk to Masha, who is working on the brand full-time. Even though Masha was studying traditional fashion, she dared to make it digital!

#4 Mike from VVAMP Footwear

Mike is bringing his IRL experience into the Internet. He's the one who's been deep into the footwear industry IRL, but one day decided to try out the digital world too. Making quality footwear for avatars can be challenging, but Mike is a genius at making his brand visible across the different virtual worlds.

SHORT INTERVIEW

Wearable designer CYCPOLOPA

Tell us more about how Decentraland looked like when you joined the space and what was your first thoughts about?

When I joined the space in the summer of 2020, Decentraland was very quiet compared to nowadays, and I could literally explore for hours without seeing other users! However, I like to explore and find new places, so I loved the experience!

How wearables evolved during that time?

During that period in time, not everyone could publish wearables. Only a selection of verified creators/teams were allowed to publish wearables. All these 'old' wearables were minted on the Ethereum blockchain (Layer 1). Nowadays, everyone can publish wearables, but these wearables are automatically minted on the Polygon/Matic blockchain.

In your eyes, what is the future of wearables?

Wearables that come with an IRL version. (Example: https://pic.twitter.com/LW9lN4bLwK)

Linked Wearables. (Example: the D&G Genesis collection)
