This is a weekly newsletter brought to you by a former fashion editor, aka me, Lina. I will particularly cover digital wearables and their role in the gaming and fashion industry. I will do what I do best - listen and report. So The Wearables Daily will feature and acknowledge all industry talents and tell their stories.

INTRODUCTION

Did your eye catch word Metaverse way too often? It seems that Metaverse just became the media's favorite buzzword. The alternative reality concept is mentioned everywhere: from fashion magazines to iconic TIME. I bet it's a question of time when your mom will ask you what this Metaverse thing is. 🫠With the concept getting more and more attention, people try to explore what this brave new world means. And with that comes unexpected (really?) things like regulations and attention from higher authorities. For example, I highly recommend reading this research on potential ethical issues and impacts of digital extended reality. I encourage you to think today about how it can change human behavior, habits, and perception of one another. There's a big dark side to the Metaverse that needs to be discussed - what we do about that and what else is out there besides fun and fantasy?

#WAGMI Christmas in July

Reality is limitless in Decentraland, and so are parties thrown there. This week Twitter buzzed with Christmas vibes, and everyone was showing their best outfits at WAGMI Christmas in July party. Let's hear about the event from first hand, master @tangpoko herself: "Christmas in July was an amazing idea from one of most active community members: Furmosa! When we heard about it, we thought this would be an amazing way to bring everyone together for the ultimate theme party! And when we heard that this week was Shark Week, it only made sense to bring the party to Roustan’s Cove – much love to Roustan and Canessa for all their work making this happen! My favorite part of the event was the Secret Santa Gift Exchange with over 50 participants! Furmosa was a huge part of putting this giveaway together and it was not an easy task in such a short amount of time! Loved the music too by Granolaboy and Guccitoe – the whole event was really a team effort! We appreciate the community so much for coming out and enjoying - I feel like Christmas should always be twice a year!"

The exciting future of wearables: KevinOnEarth

When did you join the space, and how it looked like back then? I started investing passively in crypto in 2017, including Decentraland. In 2019 I started building my first gallery. There were no layer 2 wearables, so everyone wore pretty much the same clothes, and anytime there was a special drop like RTFKTxATARI shoes, you would see everyone wearing the same shoes that day. Things were starting but had a lot less creative and expressive diversity.

What's happening now - why do wearables matter? Now anyone can mint their own clothing and produce thousands of clothing items for people across the world. You can learn blender (free) and pay ~$100 in mana to publish a wearable. Access to fashion as a creative art can be distributed across the global population like never before. As a result, we are seeing brands as big as Tommy Hilfiger and Philip Plein publishing their own digital wearables.

What is your vision for the future of wearables? The collections people build now will be priceless. No piece of clothing will ever live to last as long as these original pieces of digital clothing. They won't be a burden to carry, and they will live on the blockchain and be passed down generations, some as precious heirlooms. Some wearables will carry real-world special properties, access, or a 1/1 version verified through an NFC chip like a NikexRTFKT AR hoodie. These AR hoodies will not just be black hoodies but a surface for people to own their digital identity. Have you ever hated being in random people's videos? Maybe someone shooting a TikTok? You won't get tagged, most likely. What if your digital clothing has markers and an NFC so anyone filming them would see AR overlays of fashion, clothing, or whatever you choose? Digital wearables will not just be limited to how people stand out and express themselves in the digital world, but also soon, all over the physical world, first through social media and AR overlays, then climaxing when AR glasses become mainstream.

Maryana from Decentraland: I want to contribute to something revolutionary

On a sunny Sunday evening, I talked to Maryana. She is one of the few female Decentraland Twitch streamers. I know her from her beautiful avatar, who always looks sharp at all Decentraland events. She was one of the first users I've found on Twitter to follow who actively participates in web3 space.

It's 8 am where she's at and 3 pm where I am. As we log in to our google meets, we keep joking about the time difference and how difficult it is for me to attend events in Decentraland that usually happen while I am asleep.

Maryana admits - this is the first thing that needs to be improved – flexibility in event timing.
