Age of Digital Culture

Read time: 1 gelato

This is a weekly newsletter brought to you by a former fashion editor, aka me, Lina. I will cover digital wearables and their role in gaming and fashion.

The Wearables Daily feature and acknowledge all industry talents and tell their stories.

Introduction

You don't have to fly across the world to see the latest art that everyone is talking about. The Internet has made art accessible to everyone from everywhere. And even sometimes, digital art is way more convincing while experiencing online. VR technology lets users with moving difficulties travel through the real and imaginary worlds. The Metaverse concept gives an excellent opportunity to showcase artists and their art to new audiences.

One of the most exciting things I do while on the Metaverse is to explore different cultures through the small screen of my PC. Here are a few of them that, I believe, a true art lover will really enjoy.

Sotheby's

Sotheby’s has claimed its stake in the Metaverse by opening its first-ever virtual galleries, choosing Decentraland as the destination. Occupying a prime location in Decentraland’s Voltaire Art District, the building replicates the auction house’s iconic New Bond Street Galleries in London.

The structure features all five ground-level gallery spaces and the figure of Sotheby’s London Commissionaire, Hans Lomulder, on hand to greet visitors.

The gallery was launched in 2021, with the big event with Natively Digital curated NFT sale, which culminated in the auction of Cryptopunk 7523 on June 10. The auction was streamed live into the virtual gallery.

Frida Kahlo's Red house

A replica of famous painter Frida Kahlo’s childhood home is now available to visit in the Metaverse. It's an interactive journey where users learn about Frida’s life and her most influential artworks. The house, known as Casa Roja, features a quest-like game experience and audiovisual material where visitors can learn about Frida’s work in both English and Spanish.

Also, here you can find showcased series of unpublished drawings from Frida and many stories about the Mexican artist’s life that have never been revealed before.

The gallery was inaugurated in August and presented during Decentraland’s Art Week.

Musee Dezentral

The Musee Dezentral is a decentralized museum where everyone can show their art. Hall of Fame is the first hall you'll find upon entry, and it's full of now-iconic digital collectibles from crypto art collections, i.e., the Bored Ape Yacht Club, CryptoPunks, and CryptoKitties. Alongside these pieces are works by world-renowned artist Damien Hirst.

MOCA

MOCA is a Metaverse museum with both permanent and guest collections. The permanent collection is called Genesis Collection and includes 251 artworks by 251 crypto artists.

"How do I talk about this art in a way that's not about profit? In order to really value art, you kind of have to remove the buying and selling part of it. And you then have to step into the mindset of, what is the human being behind this work? Where are they? What are they experiencing?" says Shivani, MOCA co-founder.

VEVE Marvel Comics Paradise

The VeVe digital NFT marketplace brought Marvel into the Metaverse. You can now explore the most iconic Marvel comics right from your browser. A beautiful spacious gallery features the covers and other illustrations of Marvel comics. From here, you can explore other The Veve places on Spatial like "VeVe Marvel Comics Tree House" and "VeVe Marvel Comics World" - all about Marvel.
